On February 28, 1994, during the Bosnian War, six Serbian J-21 Jastreb attack aircraft led by Ranko Vukmirović targeted a military factory in Novi Travnik. Meanwhile, two U.S. F-16Cs flown by Captains Robert Wright and Scott O’Grady from the 526th Fighter Squadron were patrolling the no-fly zone under Operation Deny Flight. When the Serbian pilots ignored warnings and continued their mission, the Americans engaged, resulting in the first combat action in NATO’s history.
